Lighter fluid is naphtha. It is much cheaper to buy it in bulk in hardware stores (quart or gallon size).

coleman fuel = white gas = naphtha

works, though I think zippo fluid is a little less explosive

i've always wondered what they used for zippo fuel in-theater during WW2. always assumed it was gasoline or maybe kerosene, but gas would be more available you would think. diesel? anyone know?

If they can fractionate fresh ethanol out of beer, there should be no reason someone clever couldn't do this.

No doubt someone could distill used motor oil to get a variety of products, but leaving a mason jar of oil out in the sunlight for 2 weeks and get naptha? Can't buy that.

WD-40, Raid, furniture polish, rubbing alcohol, grain alcohol, mineral spirits...

Just a few of the products that work fine in my zippo.

Lighter fluid is bad enough,
But Raid? And the others ?

I'm only starting the woodstove and campfires with mine. If I was lighting anything I planned to inhale, it would be moot, because it can't be worse than modern cigarettes.

Out in the country, we improvise.

Raid in Zippo? That`s radical. The poisons it contains are molecules away from chemical weapons, burning this crap can`t be good or even coming in contact with it thru a leaky lighter like Zippo. Modern cigs are 40% additives by weight,smoke only Sherman. Use boric acid or diatomaceous earth to kill roaches.
